Bolivia: The Height of Mineral Collecting

by Jaroslav Hyršl and Alfredo Petrov

This 12th entry in the ExtraLapis English series of books, devoted to the minerals of Bolivia, was written by well-known Boliviaphiles Jaroslav Hyršl and Alfredo Petrov, with additional contributions by Robert B. Cook, Rock Currier, Anthony R. Kampf, Suzanne Liebtrau, Lauren Megaw, Bill Smith, Carol Smith and Terry Wallace.

Introductory chapters cover Bolivian history and the buying and collecting of minerals in Bolivia, with a narrative of a road trip in Bolivia by the always entertaining Rock Currier. Locality chapters are devoted to Huanuni, Poopó, the San José and Itos mines in Oruro, the Morococala mine, Potosí Department and Cerro Rico de Potosí, Tasna and Chorolque, Cerro Huañaquino, Llallagua, Colquechaca, Viloco, Corocoro, Cerro Sapo, and the Anahí mine. Maps and a detailed table of localities and the minerals they have produced round out the coverage.

Specimen photography carries on the usual high standard that has been typical of this series, picturing many specimens that have not previously been published. All in all, a fine addition to anyone's mineral library.
