Italian mineral collector and dealer Paolo Tavanti was born February 26, 1942, and lives in Arezzo. He first became interested in minerals around 1960, at the age of 18; his family lived near railroad tracks, and he would often pick up specimens that had fallen from railroad cars carrying ore from the Tuscany mines. His personal collection focuses on specimens in the 20-25 cm range. He graduated from college with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Tavanti has traveled widely, in Spain, Morocco, Portugal, the Scandinavian countries, the former Yugoslavia, and Greece, and has dealt part-time in aesthetic mineral specimens since 1968. He attends the main Italian shows, the Munich Show, and shows in Slovenia and Spain.
