Milton Ellsworth Beach was born in Page, Iowa on July 12, 1885, the son of Sina Young and Alonzo Irwin Beach, a. He married Nora Gracia Miller, and began collecting minerals around 1910.
Ellsworth and his family moved to Los Angeles before 1920, where he worked as a business manager (1924) and as the supervisor of a truck farm (1930). By 1942 (at age 57) he had developed a very fine mineral collection. At the Southwest Mineralogists Society's sixth annual exhibition in Los Angeles in October 1942, Ellsworth Beach won first prize for his display of crystals. He won 3rd place in the "Crystals" category in 1944.
Ellsworth Beach died May 29, 1960, in Los Angeles, California.
